The Health Research Council of New Zealand (HRC) is holding its annual Hui Whakapiripiri aimed at those who share an interest in Maori health and Maori health research. The Hui will be held in Rotorua on the 8th and 9th of July 2010 at the Rotorua Convention Centre.

The purpose of Hui Whakapiripiri 2010 is to promote current Maori health research and to encourage the participation of emerging Maori health researchers. It is a chance for participants to network, share knowledge and learn from one another. In previous years the Hui has attracted over 150 delegates including politicians, emerging researchers, students, academics, policy makers and representatives from community based organisations, hapu and iwi.

The theme for 2010 is 'Hangaia to whare korero ma nga pou rangahau e tu - Building your house of learning.' This theme refers to Nga Pou Rangahau - The HRC's Strategic Plan for Maori Health Research 2010-2015, and the significance of this for strengthening the relationship between Maori communities and the health and research sectors. The theme focuses on four strands; creative health research, consent, consultation and community health research. It encourages collaboration, understanding and learning between the various levels of the health and research sectors and Maori communities, taking into account Maori community aspirations and culturally sensitive issues. As well, it has a focus on creative and innovative health research and health service provision for the benefit of Maori and Aotearoa/New Zealand.

Registrations close on Friday 2 July.
