The Human Rights Commission is preparing a chapter on the Rights of Children and Young Persons. The draft of the chapter is now available online for public consultation as part of the Commissionâ??s Review of Human Rights in New Zealand 2010. This consultation will close on 24 September.

The Commission's draft chapter on the rights of children identifies areas for action, including:
- ensuring legislation reflects New Zealand's obligations under UNCROC
- prioritising the elimination of child poverty and addressing inequalities affecting Maori and Pacific children
- increasing avenues for children's views to be listened to
- developing initiatives that support families, schools and communities to prevent violence and bullying.
