Search for young leaders who can make a difference

The Rotorua District Council is on the look out for a group of diverse young people to join the 2011 Rotorua District Youth Council.

The group of future leaders, aged between 13 - 18 years old, brings together a mix of ethnicity, geographic location, gender and experience, and aims to encourage youth participation in the community.

Youth councillors are expected to be able to problem solve, work well in a team, keen on organising events, have a keen interest in civic duty, be prepared to discuss issues affecting Rotorua's young people, be good listeners and have a network of peers to share information with.

The youth council will decide on projects they would like to be part of, with some fantastic opportunities within the community to be involved in.

This year, a number of our youth councillors attended the Youth in Local Government Conference in Porirua, and were involved in consultation on issues such as raising the driving age, RDC's annual plan, and Youth Week and Music Month planning.

Application forms are available from schools, Rotorua Public Library, online at www.rdc.govt.nz, www.rotaz.co.nz or by contacting Jill Campbell at the council on 348 4199 ext 8180 for more information.

Last day for applications is Friday 5th November 2010.
