Sharing the Kete - Family Inclusive Practice Workshops - Youth, Alcohol and Other Drug Issues

» 08/02/2011, Posted by Site Admin

Kina Trust promotes family inclusive practice in the mental health and addictions sector. These regional workshops are based on 'Sharing the Kete', a Kina Trust resource that draws upon current evidence based approaches to provide a practical guide for working with youth and their families in response to youth alcohol and other drug (AOD) issues in CAMH/AOD services. These inclusive approaches will support practitioners to meet the 'working with family/whaanau' competencies in the Real Skills PLUS CAMHS framework.

Topics presented include:
- Youth, alcohol and other drugs, and family inclusive practices
- Engaging with youth and their whaanau in promoting change
- Family and whaanau inclusive plans and strategies based on motivational, strength-based, behavioural and creative models
- Resources to support inclusive practices

These one day interactive workshops are open to practitioners working in mental health and addictions i.e. CAMHS or NGO settings. They are free of charge and fully catered.

Workshops are offered in the following locations:
Tauranga - 25 February
Wairarapa - 1 April
Auckland - 14 April
Invercargill - 13 May

Please note that places are limited to 15 participants per workshop. Registration is therefore essential.

These workshops are being offered by Kina Trust in partnership with The Werry Centre for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Workforce Development.

Facilitator: Nicki Lishman. Nicki is a highly experienced Social Worker, specialist AOD youth practitioner and Kina Trust facilitator. Nicki is currently practicing part time at Te Poutama Tautoko, Central Health, a Kaupapa Maori AOD service, working with rangatahi and their whaanau.
