An open day will wrap up NZ youth week run in conjunction with NZ Music Month.
This is a 'by youth, for youth' plan supported by E Oho (Te Waiariki Purea Trust) and the team at the Rotorua Youth Centre. The theme for Youth week 2011 is 'Step up, be heard, take responsibility, be YOUth'.
The day will consist of two parts. Part one will be an 'amazing race' type activity named 'The AmYOUzing race' and the second part will be an open day or 'The Backyard Bounce' at the RYC reserve.
Challenges for the AmYOUzing Race will be based around engaging with local community groups and partaking in an activity based around the kaupapa of the community group.
The second part will consist of a backyard expo set up at the youth centre reserve from 11am till 6pm. Confirmed youth acts will be allocated time slots throughout the day with the two headline acts, Knights of the Dub Table and Native Sons, to play the finale.
This will provide an opportunity for youth to showcase their creative talent particularly in the form of live music and dance as well as provide a forum for local service providers to engage with youth.
It is confirmed that youth performing will go into a draw to have the opportunity to be mentored by seasoned musicians from bands whose music spreads a message of positivity and unity.
We are still seeking any local youth talent to perform on this day and would like to hear from any bands/culture groups etc that are interested.
And a reminder that any group/solo that performs will go into a draw to win a day with Native Sons to mentor them in their musical journey.
A rego form is attached for the AmYOUzing Race for anyone over 11yrs to partake in, $300 first prize.
