» 25/05/2011, Posted by Site Admin

A one-day training opportunity is available on:
7 July 2011
8.30 am - 4.30 pm
Rotorua Hospital Boardroom
Free registration

This training is designed for those who have first contact with people at risk of suicidal behaviours - for example health and social services such as youth workers, social workers, nurses, police, ambulance staff, counsellors, family start, budget advisory services, CYF, strengthening families, drug and alcohol services and others.

The workshop prepares participants to make an initial assessment of risk for suicide and to 'triage' the at-risk person to a professional for further assessment and care. It includes instruction on how to interview potentially suicidal persons and determine immediate risk of suicide, as well as how to effectively and immediately reduce the risk of suicide attempt.

In practical language, the course teaches participants how and what to say, what questions to ask, and to initially assess the immediate risk of a suicide attempt as well has how to carry out and document an effective referral.
