Bachelor of Youth Development

WelTec (the Wellington Institute of Technology) has developed a Bachelor of Youth Development qualification which is scheduled to start in mid-August 2011.

Developed in close collaboration with industry, and committed to the Treaty partnership approach, the Bachelor of Youth Development has been designed to develop confident and capable practitioners for modern youth services. The programme is a blend of 'hands on' and academic learning which will enable students to gain practical experience and underpinning theories while studying.

Some examples of topics included in the degree are:
* Ethics of youth work
* Managing crisis situations
* Promoting whanau and community cohesion
* Strengths-based practice models
* Research skills
