Searching Students and Confiscation: New Ministry of Education guidance on good practice

The Ministry of Education has just released guidelines for the search and seizure of drugs and weapons in schools. Education Minister Anne Tolley says these guidelines will support teachers and protect students and staff.

The guidelines include sections on: the roles and responsibilities of school boards of trustees and principals, and legal obligations; general guidance on searching students; recommended good practice for searching students and confiscation; and links to related resources and examples of scenarios that may arise in a school setting.
