» 20/09/2011, Posted by Site Admin

Attached are statistics provided by the Mayors' Taskforce for Jobs which show the number of young people who were Work and Income clients in each TLA area in July and August 2011. These figures relate only to those young people who are registered with Work and Income.

In the Rotorua District, there was an overall increase in young people who were Work and Income clients in this period:
June to July - An overall increase of 48 young people
July to August - An overall increase of 31 young people.

Within these totals, the number of Rotorua young people receiving unemployment benefit decreased slightly, and those on DPB-related benefits and 'other' benefits increased (see attached tables and chart).

Most other communities in the Bay of Plenty also show an increase in the number of youth clients in this period, with the exception of Taupo, which shows a decrease of 12 young people receiving benefits between June and July, and a further decrease of 17 young people from July to August.
