The bay PRIDE festival - Saturday 10th December 2011

The bay PRIDE festival is to be held in Hannahs Bay on Saturday 10th of December 2011.

This event has evolved since the original conception, however we remain true to our original motivation - we are concerned with the high number of youth suicides here in the Bay of Plenty. Anecdotally a number of recent suicides have been linked to sexual identity. We would like to raise awareness of this issue, by providing positive role models who are visible in our community, celebrating the diversity of our community, and creating a fun cultural experience where everyone is welcome!

The bay PRIDE festival is all about celebrating DIVERSITY. Originally, we started to create this event around the GLBT community, then we realised the concerns we were raising were not unique to our own community, and that we needed to include the wider community. These children are someones daughter or son, brother or sister.

We want to celebrate this amazing city in which we live! We want to showcase Rotorua as a vibrant city to live, work and play. This is all about community involvement. We do not want to focus on the negative, but we will acknowledge the suicides, however...we want to put EVERYTHING POSITIVE about Rotorua in the spotlight, and lets start with our people!
