The District Truancy Service is soon to be replaced with a new service which will combine the current truancy services (DTS and NETS) into one integrated service. DTS and NETS contracts are to be extended until the end of Term 3, and the integrated Attendance Service will now offer services to schools from the start of Term 4, 2012.
An additional $4 million per year was allocated in Budget 2009/10 to reduce truancy. Some of this funding will be invested in the new integrated Attendance Service.
The service will be available to all schools but funding will be targeted at priority areas based on evidence of highest need. The new service will have a changed service delivery framework.
