Forum to Discuss Potential for Environmental Youth Council

» 18/06/2012, Posted by Site Admin

Rotorua Youth Centre is investigating the possibility of starting up an Environmental Youth Council. We are inviting representatives from Rotorua high schools and intermediates to attend a meeting where we will ask the youth to share their views about should we start up an Environmental Youth Council within the Rotorua district?

We are keen to hear young people's views on whether there is a need for an Environmental Youth Council or not, and why. If yes, we will form a group to prepare a submission to establish an Environmental Youth Council and why we believe it should be established, this will be presented to Rotorua District Council, Bay of Plenty Environmental Regional Council and Te Arawa Lakes Trust.

The aim is to increase environmental awareness amongst Rotorua youth and to advise a higher authority about the youth view. We are aiming to create proactive attitudes about environmentally friendly lifestyles, and to take active steps in improving the Rotorua environment.

The forum meeting will be held on:
Wednesday 20 June
3.30pm to 4.30pm
at Bay of Plenty Regional Council, 1125 Arawa Street, Rotorua
Afternoon tea will be provided.
